 Junko Smyth

 Cooking Instructor

I was born and lived in Tokyo before coming to Perth in 1996.
I grew up in a family that ran various restaurants in Tokyo and this passion for cooking has been passed down through my family.
I worked mainly in the hospitality industry.  I also taught Japanese for 4 years at a private high school in Perth before returning to Japan in 2004 for 7 years.
I am a mother of three children, I spend a lot of time in my kitchen to satisfy my young foodies.

In my daily life, I don't just cook Japanese food, I cook all sorts of food, Italian, Asian, BBQ etc, especially Chinese.
After having various fun cooking sessions with my friends at home, also giving few casual private cooking lessons to those who wanted to try to cook some Japanese dishes, I decided to offer this cooking experience for anyone wanting to cook Japanese food, so I officially started this cooking classes, Jun's Kitchen, in 2017 and have been enjoying it so much!
The venue is my own family kitchen, I hope everyone enjoys a cosy homely atmosphere during the class when learning HOMESTYLE Japanese cooking 😊

You can learn how to make the popular dishes from Japan, and even make some delicious meals you would have never seen on a restaurant menu before.
I would love to share the pleasures of Japanese cooking with you!

Cooking Sessions

Sessions run for 2.5 to 3hours, conducted by myself and an assistant at my home in Meadow Springs.
We only have up to 6 participants, enabling us to have a very hands-on cooking experience.  Due to time restrictions and the size of our class, we don't have a sit-down meal at the table after cooking, instead we focus on cooking and have a taste of the food we just cooked, then you'll be sent home with the meal to share with your family/friends.
Recipes will be provided.
